This course teaches the classifications of drugs according to body systems and the use of these drugs for the purpose of restoring or maintaining health. Orem's theory is integrated into practical application based on a client's needs. The course begins with basic terminology and progresses to medication administration and standards and legislation as they relate to drugs. Topics include the role of the nurse, the nursing process, nutrition, and principles of ethics. A basic study of pharmacokinetics helps the student to understand how drugs are absorbed, transported, metabolized, and excreted.
